Scarlett Johansson for Mango

Scarlett Johansson simply sizzles in her Autumn/Winter campaign shots for Mango. The high street store’s new season collection celebrates feminine curves and Scarlett is the ideal model. The actress looks every bit the retro Hollywood star in these vintage-inspired pieces.

Cat Deeley’s accessories

Cat Deeley looked gorgeous at the Teen Choice Awards. Her asymmetric white dress and lattice heels worked so well with her golden skintone. But it was her accessories that really stood out to us.

Stacked up on her wrist was a heap of friendship bracelets. Not just any friendship bracelet though – we can’t quite picture Cat at home weaving threads – these are Links of London friendship bracelets. Cat mixed up fluro-coloured bands with 3D silver skull and heart design bracelets.

Always with an eye for detail, Cat added the finishing touches of a dazzling blue clutch and neon pink toe polish. Fabulous!

Whitney Port in summer florals

Summer dressing and floral prints seem to go hand in hand. This year’s no exception. We’ve spotted some rather stylish celebs in cute floral dresses this week – Cat Deeley, Eva Longoria Parker and Whitney Port, to name but a few.

We love Whitney’s dressed down look here. It’s slouchy, relaxed and casual with her simple embellished flipflops. She’s kept her hair loose and tousled for a style that looks effortless (even if it took an age to put together).

If you want to adopt the romantic floral look, check out some of these sweet, ditsy dresses.

Left to right: Roseprint dress, Miss Selfridge at House of Fraser £40; Sophie tea dress, Oliver Bonas £69; Romantic floral dress, Warehouse £30 now £25.

Celebs love J Brand Houlihans

If, like us, you rate the oh so stylish Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth and Rachel Bilson  then you may have noticed that they have a similar taste in trousers. Not quite skinny jean nor cargo pant, the J Brand Houlihan is the style of choice and it’s selling fast.

Jessica Alba in J Brand Houlihans

The military trend has been around for a while now but it’s still riding high in the fashion charts. The J Brand Houlihan is not your traditional slouchy cargo pant though. It is far more tailored and slim-fitting. They’re more like a pair of skinny jeans, but with the added detail of oversized flap pockets at the thigh and gold-tone zippered legs. The  seam runs down the centre and diagonally across the knees for a slim fit.

J Brand Houlihans are available in a choice of natural colours, including  olive and shark skin. Also look out for the vintage navy.

Ideal for easy summer dressing, team your Houlihans with a simple vest top and metallic flat sandals or utilitarian boots as shown here by Jessica Alba.

J Brand Houlihan jeans are available at Donna Ida, £245

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung’s style
Anna says: “For a dress down look I think Alexa Chung really gets it right. She takes a trend and makes it her own and is very real.

I liked her Coachella Festival look and I think this could translate to a copycat outfit well – a playsuit, worn with an across the body bag and flat sandals.”

Hot or not? Socks and sandals

For years, wearing socks with sandals has been the ultimate style faux pas. Usually spotted on tourists and embarrassing dads trying to work a summer casual look, the sight of lily-white pins descending into woolly socks with leather sandals has raised many a titter.

But style rules were made to be broken. Socks and sandals are right on the fashion button now. We’ve been warming up to the trend for a while. Tights and open toe sandals have been accepted for some time, so why not make it work for summer too?

The sock and sandal combo was seen on several Spring/Summer catwalk shows including Marni and Christian Dior. Since then, we’ve spotted some of our fave celebs – Alexa Chung and Fearne Cotton to name but two – rocking the sock ‘n sandal look.

You have to have a certain level of geek style and confidence to make the look work. It won’t look right with just any old sock either. Go for a funky style – we like the striped numbers from Hobbs shown in the pic below. If you’re going for plain black socks, team them with a white sandal for a monochrome style as seen on the Hermes catwalk. You should also look out for sparkly, frilly or embellished socks to keep it girly. The heel height is all important too. We’re not talking flat sandals here, go for a mid-heel.

Think you can make it work? Or is it a style taboo for a reason? Socks and sandals: hot or not?

Hot or not: socks and sandals

Hobbs: Rocas spot dress, £129, Becca bangle, £35, Besom bag, £169, Stripe socks, £5, Isle sandal, £129

Hot heels

I’ve had a bit of a wake up call this week. The sight of Carrie and the girls striding around in their fabulously sexy heels made me look downwards. I’ve become very lazy. I’ve been putting comfort first. My Chanel-style two tone pumps have been worn a little too often.

The sunshine has got me donning sandals. Ok, they might be Gladiator-esque with some serious tribal fringing going on, but they’re still [gulp] flat.

What’s happened to my dedication to style? Where’s my fashion forward step gone?

So this week, I’m bringing sexy back. It’s going to be killer heels all the way. There’ll be no more excuses about tricky London pavements and being kind to my feet. I have stilettoes and I’m going to wear them. SJP, Cheryl Cole, Kylie – I salute you and your commitment to fabulously high footwear.

Be inspired – check out these hot heels
