Fringe Benefits

Fed up with your hair but don’t want to sacrifice the length? Then you need to get a fringe! Fringes have been back in vogue for a couple of years, but the new trend for soft, layered fringes means this is one of the most wearable beauty looks of 2010!

As ever, those A-listers have already jumped on this trend bandwagon with stars such as Lily Allen, Rachel McAdams and Gemma Arterton all sporting the new soft fringe.

What’s great about this fringe is that it’s not such a full commitment as the blunt number seen a few seasons back, plus as these 3 ladies prove, it suits all hairstyles, hair colours and face shapes. It’s also one of those styles that look better the more grown out it is so need to book twice monthly appointments for a fringe trim! We’re booking our appointment now…

Front Row At Fashion For Relief

We had exclusive front row seats and backstage access at last night’s Fashion For Relief catwalk show, and we can tell you that it was absolutely fantastic! We interviewed the likes of Alexandra Burke, James Corden, Kimberley & Nicola from Girls Aloud, David Gandy, Jo Wood, Pixie Geldof plus more who were all doing their bit for Fashion For Relief.

The night opened with a word from MC Trudi Styler followed by Sarah Brown, who is a Patron of Fashion For Relief. She gave a touching speech about the plight of women and babies in hurricane stricken Haiti, which made everyone realise the true value of the night. We were then treated to an electric performance from Beverly Knight, appropriately singing Soul Survivor – she blew us all away with her soulful voice!

The show opened with Naomi Campbell – who is even more beautiful in real life and doesn’t look her age at all – followed by Kate Moss, wearing Alexander McQueen, which was a fitting tribute to their late friend and designer. Sir Phillip Green went on to purchase Kate’s McQueen dress for a cool £100k!

Backstage, the atmosphere was buzzing and there were no egos in sight. In the spirit of the night, the celebrity models patiently lined up half-an-hour before they were due to go on and didn’t complain at all – surely a rariety in the celeb world?

Key celebrity catwalk highlights included Naomi & her mother (quite obvious where she got her stunning genes from), Kate Moss, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts, Erin O’Connor, Amber Valetta and mum Yasmin Le Bon walking together, Denise Van Outen who was positively glowing and showing off her growing baby bump, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Alexandra Burke, Shirley Bassey, Jo Wood, Geri Halliwell and of course the cheeky Ronnie Corbett!

Backstage, celebs including Erin O’Connor, Kimberley Walsh, The Saturdays, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, Shirley Bassey and David Gandy all signed our limited edition Vivienne Westwood T-shirts, which will be auctioned for Fashion For Relief at Westfield London’s fashion event in March. We’ll also be giving one of these away the next Westfield London e-newsletter – so if you’ve not already signed up, sign up now.

You can watch the entire Fashion For Relief show online now – so take a look and don’t forget, if you’re in London, come down between 19th-21st February and snap up a limited edition Vivienne Westwood T-shirt.

Rosie Huntington–Whiteley Models For Monsoon

Monsoon have given us a sneak peek of their lovely new lingerie collection and we like what we see! Brit model Rosie Huntington–Whiteley is the face of the collection and she looks even more gorgeous than usual. Famous for her perfect pout, Rosie has recently graced the covers of Vogue, L’Officiel and Wallpaper.

We’d really to snap up every item in this gorgeous new collection but our favourites include Glamour, which has been inspired by the Art Deco era of the 1920s.  We love the vintage styling on this range – it’s just so gorgeous and reminds us of something a Hollywood movie star would’ve worn in decades gone by.

Also on our wishlist is the Folklore collection. The ditsy florals are just so on trend for Spring/Summer, so it makes sense to carry on the trend to your lingerie!

This fabulous new range is in shops now with prices starting at £25.

Pregnancy – It’s The New Fashion!

Is it just us or does there seem to be a whole heap of pregnant celebrities around at that moment? Dannii Minogue, Claudia Schiffer, Denise Van Outen, Amy Adams – it seems if you’re not up the duff, then you’re simply not fashionably in the world of the celebrity.

Now obviously we know babies are more than a fashion accessory, but the latest batch of mums-to-be are blooming, proving that just because you’re pregnant, you don’t have to be unfashionable. From Claudia’s school run casual chic, to Amy and Denise’s red carpet looks, being pregnant hasn’t stopped these gorgeous girls looking great.

Our top tip to keeping fashionable while you’re pregnant? Check out your high street favourites to see if they do a maternity range – TopShop, River Island, New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Next and M&S all have maternity sections, which basically featured slightly adapted versions of their main range.

Also, just try buying a size bigger from your favourite shops? This might not work with trousers but for tops and dresses, especially those made in stretchy, jersey fabrics, it does mean you can carry on being that fashionable yummy mummy without sacrificing on comfort.

The only thing you might have to sacrifice is your heels, but thankfully Spring/Summer sees the return of the kitten heel, which is much more manageable when you’re carrying an extra person.

And with the likes of Claudia as style icons, you’ll be spoilt for inspiration. We just can’t wait to see how Dannii styles up her bump!

Go Nude This Spring!

Don’t panic! We’re not suggesting you roam around in your birthday suit, rather that you embrace the new nude tones for the new season.

Donna Karan, Givenchy and Burberry all showed a plethora of nude shades on the catwalk and as ever, the most fashionable of celebrities have already umped on the flesh tone bandwagon.

Penelope Cruz chose a gorgeous figure-hugging Armani Prive dress for the Italian premiere of Nine, while Drew chose a dramatic dress from Atelier Versace for The Golden Globes. And it’s not just big Hollywood stars who have embraced this trend – Cheryl Cole stepped out looking stunning at a recent German music award show in a stunning Maz Azria dress.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got a spare £4,000 lying around (the cost of Cheryl’s dress apparently), as the high street is being quick to interpret this trend and has already started producing some gorgeous nude delights.

We’ve picked three of our favourites around at the moment, and as this is a trend that is sure to be a super summer hit, we recommend you invest now. Wear a nude coloured dress with black tights or team a flesh-toned jacket with faded skinnies – this is one look that will take you to and beyond the summer months with ease.

L-R: Biker Jacket, £45, Miss Selfridge; Dress, £110, Reiss; Bodycon Skirt, £22, Topshop

Prints Charming

Prints are always a big hit on the Spring/Summer catwalk, and this year proved no different. As well as the usual pretty florals, lots of designers showed quirky, yet cool, digital prints.

Givenchy chose to splash their abstract design all over their clothes – we particularly liked their jersey leggings, however, for us non-catwalk types, the easiest way to wear this trend is with an abstract print dress. And fashion-conscious celebs agree with everyone from Claudia Schiffer to Diane Kruger seen sporting a cute print mini dress on the red carpet.

What’s more, the high street has gone gaga for this look. From multi-coloured digital madness to the more understated monochrome feel, there’s something for everyone this year. We suggest you get ahead of the fashion pack now and snap one of these beauties up – some of our favourites are even in the sale now, so take your pick from one of our fab four digital print dresses.

L-R: Omaha dress, £60, Full Circle (available in store from March); Shift dress, reduced to £30, Oasis; UFO print dress, £35, Dorothy Perkins; J for Jasper Conran dress, £75 (in stores this spring)

Heidi Klum’s Bathtime Secret

You have to hand it to Heidi Klum – she’s a TV presenter, supermodel and a mother to four kids – yet she always looks amazing and full of energy. Well, now we think we may have unearthed the gorgeous German’s secret!

We’ve found out that she’s a huge fan of Rituals, a natural range of beauty products, with one of her favourites being their Energy Bubbles Moisturising Cream Bath. This gorgeous smelling bath soak containing Gingseng and Chinese peony, makes your skin feel instantly softer and silkier, so we can see why Heidi is a fan.

The good news for us equally busy non-celebrities however, is the price. It’s only £9.90, which means you can indulge in a little A-list luxury in the comfort of your own home without breaking the bank. Rituals products are available in Ritual stores throughout the UK, as well as in certain department stores.

Steal Sarah Harding’s Style

We like to keep our eagle eyes on what our favourite celebrities are wearing, and we’re always very pleased when we discover that like us they have a penchant for the high street.

Sarah Harding is one such celebrity. In fact, she loves her Folli Follie gold clutch bag (£125) so much, she’s been spotted on more than one occasion toting the glam bag.

Our picture shows Sarah at her birthday party in November, however, we also know she chose to accessory her long, black dress with the gold clutch on New Yea’rs Eve as well. So, what are you waiting for, get yourself over to Folli Follie now to grab yourself a little piece of celebrity style.

Celebrity Trend: Faux Fur

A celeb trend that’s wearable is a rare thing of wonder, but that’s exactly what the faux fur coat trend is!

Stars such as Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham and Kate Hudson have all been spotted out and about keeping warm and snugly in their faux fur buys. It’s a look that has filtered down into the high street as well, meaning you can snap up a slice of A-list luxe at a fraction of the price.

It’s the perfect cover up – especially with all this snow – and what’s more, you’ll probably be able to pick up a fur number in the sales. We’ve found a great black faux fur (see below) at Debenhams, reduced from £49 to £35.

Both Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham favour the more natural hue of coat, such as this Topshop number (middle). However, we think you can’t go wrong with black. If you don’t want to go the whole faux fur coat hog, don a furry gillet, which looks great when clashed with a cutesy print dress.

L-R: Black gilet, Warehouse; Brown coat, Topshop; Black coat, Debenhams

The key to wearing this look successfully is to keep the rest of your look simple. With so much volume up top, it’s also wise to keep the bottom half slim in skinny jeans or leggings. And finally, remember to keep it fake – real fur is not cool and if the faux variety is good enough for the likes of Ms Moss, then it’s good enough for us!

Beauty Treat: The Eyes Have It

When it comes to party looks, you can’t beat a smokey eye! Sultry eyes are a favourite among celebrities as well with Cheryl Cole, Beyonce and Keira Knightley often seen sporting dark and delicious eye make-up on the red carpet.

It’s also a great way to take your make-up from day to night – just add a pair of false eyelashes, a touch of liner and you’re ready to go straight to the party.

Whether you choose smudged kohl or the more ’60s style liquid liner, the essential item needed for smokey eyes is liner. For the festive season, we’re loving Urban Decay’s glitter eye liner (£12), which is just perfect for that little bit of sparkle.

theeyeshaveit

Eyelashes are also key. If you want to be more natural, make sure you not only layer on the mascara, but also curl them beforehand. Heating your eyelash curlers up with your hairdryer will add to their lusturous affect. Our favourites are from Illamasqua (£17.13), available to buy in Debenhams and other department stores.

No beauty conscious star ever steps in front of the cameras without their false eyelashes and neither should you! You can now even buy Cheryl Cole’s lashes as Eylure have teamed up with Girls Aloud to create their own range, (£4.89)! Cheryl’s are, in her words, “cool and ultra glamorous”. We can’t guarantee that you’ll look like the singer, but they will definitely help improve flutterability.

If you need help applying them, check out Lauren Luke’s tutorial on You Tube, or alternatively some stores do offer a service to apply your eyelashes for you.

So go forth and flutter – and just remember if you’re doing a strong eye, make your lips nice and neutral.
