Style Crush…Bip Ling

Triple threats usually have us green with envy. We tend to pretend to ourselves that they only come around once in a blue moon, like mythical creatures we like to group them with unicorns or Victoria Secrets models.  However what do you get when you come across someone who surpasses the triple threat? Bip Ling is the answer. The ex-art student has now acquired quite the CV and become a house hold name in the fashion world. With renowned Blogger, DJ, Model, T.V presenter, artist, face of Forever 21, and a feature girl for the new ‘Made by Nike’ campaign listed as her professions, why wouldn’t you notice her? From her infamous ‘bathroom look of the day’ blog posts, to her signature bows & bold colours, Bip lip is no fashion wall flower. We love a risk taker, and are frankly, taken with Miss Bip.

Tailor Made

Mad Men was one of the biggest hits of 2011. Not only being a blockbuster TV hit, and bringing us John Hamm (thank you), they presented an exquisite wardrobe! Celebrating the female form in all its glory, tailored dresses and strappy sandals were the new office staples that we were dying to get back into. Thankfully some of our favourite brands followed suit, injecting a modern twist with bow ties, brogues and pencil skirts, office chic was back. For tailored staple pieces look to Reiss and Zara’s SS12 collections to add to your wardrobes. Stealing your boyfriends white shirts isn’t too awful either!

The New Retro

Retro has never seemed to go out of style. Yet for those of us who unwashed hair, baggy checked shirts, and racoon eyes strike unmitigated fear of looking like our brothers, you can now breathe a sigh of relief. 2012 seems to have injected a feminine edge to the long standing trend that has allowed the majority of us who cannot pull off the effortless ‘model off duty’ style, to dig up that old denim jacket collecting dust in the back of our wardrobes and give it another go. Comeplete the look with this feminine metallic skirt from River Island, a graphic tee, or even a structured jacket like this one from Mango, and make one of this seasons hottest trends your go-to look.

Tropic Thunder

Jessie J may have beaten us to rocking one of this seasons newest trends head to toe, but, who are we to compete with an international music sensation anyway? However springs new tropical trend has struck a chord with the inner jungle girl in all of us. Our favourite brands seem to be dreaming of tropical beaches and resort wear just like the rest of us, channelling those day dreams into some of SS12’s most lusted after garments. If you aren’t as brave to wear a head to toe tropical look, highlight this new trend with one statement piece, like a pair of floral print trousers by Warehouse or this Tropical Leaf Bomber Jacket from Topshop.

The Mary Portas collection comes to Westfield London today!

Last season when Mary Portas launched her debut collection for ‘grown-up women everywhere’ in London the Queen of Shops very quickly became the Queen of Frocks.  Filled with fabulous hoisery plus chic yet slightly edgy dresses, designed for the modern women, the collection proved a big hit and now the new collection comes to House of Fraser at Westfield London.

Adding new colours and designs to last season’s favourites for Spring/Summer the collection includesthe likes of neon slouchy-chic tees, silk print trousers, digital floral and print scarves by young British artists .   This season  also sees the launch of an extended range of Armery (described as part armour, part hosiery for your arms) and a new collection of the ever essential sculpt-wear.

True Love in Pictures

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

We’re a sucker for love, we’ll admit it. So when one of New York’s power fashion couples Scott Shuman & Garance Dore got together to create the ‘True love in pictures’, for Tiffany & Co’s ‘What makes love true’ campaign, it had us a little weak at the knees. Capturing those magical moments, Schuman and Dore created the enchanting campaign completely on the iPhone’s Instagram app, the pair inspired couples around the globe and encouraged them to share their special moments with their loved ones in the ‘Moments of True love’ gallery at Tiffanys.com. Just in time for Valentine’s Day the ‘What makes love true’ campaign has cheered our January blues, warmed our hearts and had us swooning.  Check out the behind the scenes campaign footage:

This season’s essential: the Zara Shopper Basket

The Zara shopper was one of the most popular bags of last season but we think their new shopper basket is even better (so expect to see it everywhere).  Big enough to fit your life into but structured and stylish the bag comes in black and sand for £39.99.

Trend alert: 90s Grunge

It had to happen at some point.  The 70s and 80s have had their come back for the last couple of seasons as every decade does and as 2012 kicks off, so does a return back to the days of crop tops and grunge -  say hello (again) to the 90s.

While many of us who did live through the decade may not look too fondly on a number of trends – think Spice Girl platforms (shudder) – 90s grunge was the look that defined a generation.

Topshop have got it spot on with their latest collection of rock-inspired t-shirts, denim and leather.

Get the look

Hippy Girl Photo Tee: £18,

Peace bra top £12,

Check grandad shirt £28,

Flat top plastic sunglasses:  £16,

April Nubock flat Chelsea, £62,

Black leather crossbody £68,

Moto Denim hotpants £30,

All Topshop

How to wear it

Do plenty of denim.  Long, short, fitted, a little baggy, as jeans, as a shirt, as a scarf…wherever, it just needs to look like it’s been lived in a little.

Midriffs are back in vogue so if you can bear to bare it then, well, do.

Checked shirts – wear over crop top or with denim shorts and boots for the perfect 90s grunge look.

Boots are flat or with a small chunky heel, ankle length and mean business.
