Summer weekend wardrobe: Gypsy rocker

Taking boho chic to the next level one of the summer’s key looks is the gypsy rocker look.  Combine denim, floaty tops and skirts with tassels on bags, tops, waistcoats and add a feather or two and you’re ready to rock, gypsy style.

To get the look here are three key pieces as recommended by the personal shopping team at Topshop, Westfield London picked out:

Inspiration: Roberto Cavalli

Distressed blue shorts £23.00, crochet waistcoat, £40, compass pendant £14, all in store in Topshop at Westfield

Oasis goes all Mad Men for New Vintage Collection!

Oasis have launched their ’50s-inspired New Vintage Collection in select stores, including Westfield London, today.

Featuring kitsch floral prints with a modern edge, the designers were inspired by Mad Men for this rather special capsule collection.

The collection includes five colourful print dresses ranging from £110 to £150, and accompanying silk scarves and evening bags make up the colleection.  This season’s modern florals are teamed with  a classic ’50s silhouette for the new vintage look.

Our favourite has to be the yellow floral dress with the sweetheart neckline which they’ve paired with clashing print pumps and a silk scarf for their campaign shot.  So pretty and perfect for all the summer events coming up!

The Kooples have arrived

The Kooples are here!  We’ve been looking forward to the opening of The Kooples in Westfield London since we heard the news a while back.  The minute the store opened we went down to see if all the fuss was justified.

In the words of one of our Westfield London team: “Have just been in there and I want to buy the WHOLE shop!”

It’s the attention to detail that we love.  In the women’s collection it’s quality and attention to detail that give it that edge – the quality of the French lace finished with subtle leather trims and the special Kooples touches of delicate skulls embroidered or emblazened into some of the clothes.   The trench coat is a must as are the scalloped-edge shorts which, worn with a fitted blazer, embody that classic, effortless French chic.   The French flair extends to the men’s collection with inspiration from Saville Row and the music scene seen in the suits, tops and accessories.

Women’s short suits are office wardrobe essentials for spring and for the men a tailored three piece suit is the epitomy of elegence.

Spend or save: colour block bags

A bright coloured satchel is this summer’s hottest accessory.  The ‘Stella’ from Pied a Terre at House of Fraser in canary yellow and the Zara ‘Mummy and Me’ bag are two of my favourites.    The ‘Stella’ comes in at £115 while the ’Mummy and Me’ – so called because there’s a baby version (I know, altogether now: ‘Aaaaaw!’) – comes in £49.99.The ’Stella’ has proven such a hit that every unit produced was snapped up within 72 hours when it went on sale at the beginning of April.   But, before you think I’m telling you about a bag that’s not available in stores anymore just to be annoying, think again.   The bag will be back on sale tomorrow morning at House of Fraser but with only 500 available nationwide, be quick or it’ll be gone for good!

Wardrobe essential: Tucker blouses at Donna Ida

A silk shirt is an absolute wardrobe essential at the moment.  Perfect for the office, for the evening and for the day, it’s what I’d call a real style investment piece.  And with this season all about colour and bold prints,  these gorgeous blouses from Tucker exclusively at Donna Ida tick all the boxes.

Tucker by Gaby Basora is a collection of beautiful silk blouses that are designed in a way that they slip easily over the shoulders for a fit that is both elegant and sexy.  The designer has fans in high places with A-listers such as Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler spotted wearing Tucker shirts.

The exclusive prints from Tucker & Donna Ida range between £240 and £270.  Wear with skinny jeans and heels for an effortlessly elegant look day to night.

Denim: the long and short of it

This weekend Westfield London hosted their Spring/Summer fashion show and there was one material in abundance on the catwalk: denim.

On the bottom, on the top or worn together just like Alexa Chung this season’s jeans can be found in the form of short shorts, ankle cutoffs and flowing flares paired with wedges, wide-brimmed hats and yet more denim for that perfect Spring Seventies look.

Here are two of our favourite denim pieces from this weekend’s catwalk show:

Inside the Wardrobe: Chelsea Girl

Those under 30 may walk past River Island’s Chelsea Girl Wardrobe in Westfield London without batting an eyelid.  But say:  ‘Chelsea Girl is back’ to anyone who shopped the high street in the 70s and 80s and you throw them right back to the days of making love not war in an instant.

Founded in 1965, Chelsea Girl was the UK’s first fashion boutique chain.  It was THE place to shop on the high street.  Then in 1988 it closed to become River Island, the more modern take on its predecessor.

But with fashion taking a decidedly nostalgic vintage turn, it’s highly appropriate that River Isalnd is bringing Chelsea Girl back out and reinventing those classic items for the 21st century girl with an exclusive capsule collection.

Some of my favourite items include the vintage tees, which are having another fashion moment; the perfect 70s flared-jean – a much more flattering shape than the modern skinny jean; and wide-legged trousers in flower-power-tastic prints.  I’m also drawn to this long-sleeved cream top which just makes me think of Twiggy rollicking through a field of daisies..

Floral trousers: £20.  Long-sleeved top £30. T-shirts: £15.Jeans: £35.
