Spotlight on shoes for summer: Office preview

Today the sun was out and it enticed one of our staff members to ditch the tights for the first time in months.  Soon, we’ll be saying hello to our toes and arms and all the parts of the body we’ve been hiding away.  It’s the perfect time actually to start planning our summer holidays and the wardrobes to match.

We popped along to Office for a preview of their upcoming summer styles recently.  Inspired by Moroccan beaches and seventies colour, we saw wedges, signature ornate flats, super heels,  some summery espadrilles and chunky brogues.

Coach opens at Westfield London!

There were a couple of members of the Westfield team who did a little celebration dance when they heard that Coach was coming to the UK. No more requests across the pond for Coach bags, no more duty charges for ordering online;  Coach was venturing across the pond, and better still, was coming to Westfield London.

Celeb fans of the brand include the likes of Eva Longoria, Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba, who have all been seen sporting Coach’s classic designs.  As long-time fans ourselves we have to say the new collection is one of our favourite yet.  We love the ‘Sage’ and its woven counterpart, the aptly named ‘Woven Sage’.

But best of all is our very own limited edition Coach Westfield exclusive bag which comes in four tasty colours and retail at £695.

LFW: Focus on Burberry Autumn/Winter 2011

Burberry went back in time while making fashion history for their Autumn/Winter 2011 show this London Fashion Week. The show streamed live onto the big screen in Piccadilly Circus and watched by hundreds online and in stores throughout the world embraced the digital age but showcased a collection that continued the 70s trend but moved further back with plenty of 60s influence.

With probably the best front row of London Fashion Week including Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, Mario Testino and Alexa Chung – all, of course, wearing Burberry – the show kicked off with indoor snow and face of the brand Jourdan Dunn opening in a tangerine coat and dalmation fur hat.  Coats and jackets galore including short trenches in checked yellow and teal, fitted duffel coats and the signature trench with domed shoulders and patent leather-trimmed tweet re-established Burberry as the coat designer of choice for next season.

Other than coats it was skinny black flares, poodle furs, cropped drainpipe trousers and see-through capes that were the key pieces of the show which ran to a perfectly suited Dusty Springfield soundtrack.

It’s only right to mention Burberry Prorsum’s delectable footwear and accessories which include extreme platform wedges with notched heels and thick treads and accents of buckles or tassels.  The Haymarket bag made a welcome appearance in wide width, narrow height with leather tassels and some came with textile panels in the house check, while long-strapped cross-body bags were turned into clutches.

London Fashion Week Day 4

In a nutshell: It was a big day at fashion week as David Koma, Christopher Kane and Julien Macdonald took centre stage.  But there was one show on that had everyone rushing around London for, applauding and then tweeting their appreciation – Burberry Prorsum.

It was attended by the creme de la creme of the fashion world but watched live by thousands more on the big screen in Piccadilly circus, in stores or in the comfort of their own home online. The winter wonderland of shows  featured plenty of olive, orange, honey and teal with military fastenings and black and white fur.

Spotted: Everyone at Burberry including the usual suspects (Chung, Palermo), Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, Daisy Lowe, Ellie Golding and a real mix of British talent, press and style icons.

Tweeted: @SMYWjackiedixon Another one: “I love your look” “I love YOUR look” “Your hair looks FABZ” “Your jacket’s AMAZEOID” “OMG your shoes are D to the VINE”"Snaps”

The LFW dictionary: Burbs (noun); an affectionate term for Burberry, as if it were a friend.

What to wear during fashion week

Whether you’re at London Fashion Week or just following all the action on your computer or phone or just letting the general Fashion Week buzz infiltrate your working day, it’s a week to embrace the new trends.  Just in time, Westfield London has launched their Spring/Summer campaign.

We kick off our campaign with our favourite cross-over trend.  Update the winter blacks with a touch of white for a chic monochrome look.

Here’s one of our favourite outfits from the shoot, a gorgeous white and black short suit from French Connection (jacket, £115 and shorts, £57)

For all the behind-the-scenes action from our campaign shoot plus make up tips and lots of fabulous clothing, here’s our video.  Enjoy!

River Island high summer preview

Last night we got to escape winter and pretend we were on a Moroccan beach for the evening as we popped over to the River Island showroom for a preview of their high summer collection for 2011.

While sipping on rose petal cocktails (yes, they are as good as they sound) we saw kaftans, maxi dresses and sandals inspired by the colours and prints of Marrakech with a touch of the seventies trend that is set to be so huge for next season.

We also watched them putting together their look book with the photo shoot happening there and then.   The shots were then shown on ipads and computer screens around the showroom.

And here’s how the final campaign image

We love the collection, but don’t think we can hold out till summer. Can we have a plane ticket somewhere hot please?

Wardrobe essential: Orange blazer

The blazer is a wonderful thing. Name one other item that can work as both a day and evening item; can liven up an office look and dress up a casual look; can transcend the seasons and the weather.  Go on. You see?  It’s fashion genius.

As you can probably tell we’re having a massive moment with blazers, which has lasted through the winter and will continue well into next season, but to update the look for next season we’ll be trading in our muted camels and blacks for something a touch more vibrant.

Sported by the likes of Rachel Bilson, Olivia Palermo and Whitney Port the orange blazer has jumped straight to the top of our wishlist. Worn with another bright colour to rock the colour blocking trend or, like Rachel Bilson, teamed with the other big trend of the season, all white, it’s versatile enough to be a very worthy investment.

We want one and lucky for us, New Look is doing this gorgeous chiffon slouchy one for £24.99.

Mimco: Fashion on film

Australian accessories brand Mimco have always excited and inspired us with their collections and they’re doing it again with their new campaign film.   Instead of your usual image-led campaign Mimco have created an under-two-minute film entitled ‘Whispers and Anarchy’.

The film, which was shot in Paris by French film maker Virginie Gourmel and features Mimco’s 50s and 60s influenced collection for Spring, is absolutely beautiful with an ethereal charm that really captures the of elegance of Paris and the collection itself.  We love it.

Behind the Scenes: Oasis SS11

We’ve had a look at behind the scenes at River Island and now here’s a peak at what went on at the Oasis Spring/Summer 2011 shoot.

We’ve already gushed a little about their florals but we’re also big fans of the camel and white look they’re featuring in the campaign images.
