London Fashion Week Day 2

In a nutshell: Crazy tights and socks adorned the legs of the models on the House of Holland catwalk plus some very loud prints with more than a touch of granny chic about them.  But all eyes were on Issa London as the favoured brand of Kate Middleton with a mix of beautifully tailored one block colour dresses and coats alongside some bolder prints.  Plus some gorgeous tailoring and a return to mustard on the catwalk at Jaeger.

Spotted: Nicola Roberts, Peaches Geldof, Jameela Jamil, Olivia Palermo rocking leopard-print booties plus, friend to Henry Holland, Alexa Chung.

The LFW Dictionary: Yummers. (Adj) To appreciate an item or collection of items which may or may not be food-related.

Dress down like Alexa Chung

Do you admire Alexa Chung’s style? We asked Westfield London’s Personal Stylist, Anna Moore for tips on how to dress like Alexa Chung.

Alexa Chung

Personal Stylist, Anna says, ” I believe style is achievable regardless of gender, age or body shape, it’s a state of mind!”

Anna believes in taking inspiration from on-trend celebs’ latest looks to create copycat outfits of your own.

Anna says: “For a dress down look I think Alexa Chung really gets it right. She takes a trend and makes it her own and is very real.

I liked her Coachella Festival look and I think this could translate to a copycat outfit well – a playsuit, worn with an across the body bag and flat sandals.”

Hot or Not? Satchels

It may have been a few years since you considered toting a satchel, but it’s time to banish those school memories as the satchel is the bag of 2010.

It all started when Mulberry produced their gorgeous Alexa satchel. Named after TV presenter and model Alexa Chung, this bag, produced in a variety of finishes, has kick-started the satchel trend on the high street. If you want the real deal, you’re going to need to pay out around £700, but fear not, this new it-bag can be found on the high street for a whole lot less!

This is one fashion area where your man can come in handy, as satchels have long been a staple in their wardrobe, and men’s departments have some great authentic looking leather satchels out there, starting from as little as £99. However, if you want something a little more girlie, check out M&S, Topshop or Hobbs who have all created our favourite it-bags.

From top to bottom: Metallic satchel, £35, M&S; NW3 satchel, £179, Hobbs; Pushlock satchel, £45, Topshpo

They’re so adaptable, and will look as good at work as they will at festivals – that handy long strap means you can wear them across your body, leaving your hands free for that essential beer!

Take some notes from Alexa, and keep the rest of your outfit casually slouchy – throw it on over a parka and floral dress combo, or team it with your double denim.

So will you be going back to school and picking up a satchel this season? Or do you think they should remain in the school playground? Don’t forget to let us know your comments!

Hot or Not? Dungarees

When Alexa Chung recently wore Ralph Lauren dungarees in the March issue of Vogue, we all knew that the head-to-toe Americana denim revival was in full swing.

A clear ‘love or hate’ item that originally began life as men’s workwear, dungarees have once again seen a revival on catwalks around the globe. A very tricky trend to pull off – associations with farmers and mechanics spring to mind -  they were last seen in the ’90s before they were banished to our charity-shop pile.

We’re not convinced here at Westfield HQ and think they’re best left to toddler-wear, but for those who want to embrace the trend, Oasis, H&M and River Island all have options in their Spring/Summer collections. For a modern, feminine take on the look, team yours with a camisole or semi-sheer blouse and nude coloured shoes.

L-R: Oasis dungarees, £45, River Island dungarees, £29.99, Whistles Pinafore Dungarees, £135.

Do The Denim Double!

For years it was the preserve of ageing rockers, but suddenly doubling up on the denim front is tres chic!

From Alexa Chung to Amber Valetta, we’ve spied many an A-lister rocking the double denim trend. Even the boys are getting in on this one, with the likes of Zac Efron sporting a denim duo, so it’s truly a unisex trend. However, it’s a trend to be cautious of. Get it wrong and you risk looking like an extra from a bad ’80s Brat Pack film. Get it right and you’ll be the chicest person in the room – we promise.

The secret to looking more like Alexa and less like Status Quo is to mix and match your shades. A loose pale denim shirt for example looks great teamed with dark denim jeans or jeggings. Or add a light denim biker jacket with a dark denim skirt.

Just remember not to overload on the denim – lay off the denim accessories or you will risk looking like an ’80s reject!

L-R: Baggy shirt, £20, Next; High heeled trainers, £110, Office; Denim jeggings, £18, Dorothy Perkins; Biker jacket, £39.50, M&S; Mini skirt, £20, New Look.

Hot or Not? Clogs

Already labelled the “it” shoe of the season, clogs were a key piece in the Chanel Spring/Summer collection. While not all trends filter down to the high street, this is not true of the clog with stores, such as Topshop and Kurt Geiger, selling a variety of different takes on the distinctive wooden-heeled shoe.

Best teamed with the floral looks of the season, clogs offer a modern take on ’70s hippy-chic and are undeniably more comfortable than the sky-high heels of past seasons. However, it has to be said that they’re not the prettiest of shoe and just because Alexa Chung can pull them off, doesn’t mean us mere mortals can!

What do you think? Will you be wearing clogs this Spring/Summer? Our advice is to chose your clogs wisely…  you’ve been warned!

Clockwise: Zara, £99, Kurt Geiger, £150, Topshop, £40, and Aldo, £70.

Vivienne Westwood Goes Wild!

Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show was wild. It was noisy, boiling hot, the music was so loud the floor was shaking. I loved it. I saw Boy George and Judy Blame  – two of my great career influences – Tracy Emin, Alexa Chung, Michelle Williams, Ashley Heath from Pop, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud.

The show was pure Vivienne. She may be a Dame but her punk roots are strong. She’s still the ‘enfant terrible’. Her signature silhouettes and draping were evident. Especially on shirts – there were some great shirts, stripes and prints. Metallic fabrics too – a definite trend – I loved her bright pink metallic suit.

Sarah Harding, Alexa Chung and Nicola Roberts were on the front row as well!

Vivienne’s show for Red Label was very real. There were no airs and graces, I felt the punk influence in the attitude of the models, who stomped down the catwalk – there was a lady with a skinhead, a few tattoos, and one was smoking! All of Vivienne was in the show, her political manifesto, her ‘stuff the establishment’ attitude, her clever, clever cutting, draping and silhouettes, plus a hint of the pirate and a smidgeon of Bo Peep.
