Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Stylish Reads

In the first of our Stylish Reads posts Rebecca Cameron from Foyles Westfield London picks out an inspirational book about the man behind this year’s most talked about dress.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty by Andrew Bolton £30.00

There was a resounding cheer from fashionistas everywhere when Kate Middleton stepped out in her mind blowing Sarah Burton creation. Classic, regal and exquisitely designed, it threw the spot light back on British fashion and what exactly it can achieve. Arguably, no fashion house has encapsulated this better than where she honed her craft – McQueen.

This book examines his amazing collections of work, and how he constantly played with the boundaries of fashion and art. From his beginnings as a tailor on Savile Row and how he established an affinity with older, more traditional labour intensive techniques, to his breathtakingly extravagant conceptual fashion shows.

Discover, and be inspired by, a true master artist and craftsman.

Farewell to Alexander McQueen

It is with heavy hearts that we report on the death of the ‘enfant terrible’ of British fashion, Alexander McQueen. The designer,  aged 40, was found dead at his Mayfair flat earlier today. A McQ fashion show scheduled for New York Fashion Week today has been cancelled in his honour.

His company have issued the following statement: ‘On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.

‘At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family. Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.’

It’s a very sad day for fashion – the four times named British Designer of the Year was truly one of Britain’s most talented designers and his talent will be greatly missed.
