A sensitive man comes to Westfield London

For all you sensitive men out there (come on, we know you’re out there… ) there’s a special new product coming to Westfield London but it won’t be available in stores – oh no – you’ll have to buy it from a special automated retail outlet (think vending machine for beauty).

So here’s the scoop (excuse the pun) on the Scoop Sensitive Man range: it’s a 100% natural, fairtrade grooming range for men.  The range is comprised of a shaving soufflé (£15.50), exfoliating face mask (£25) and moisturising calm balm(£25) and includes shea butter, cocoa butter and avocado.  The essential oils of patchouli, sandal wood, rose, jasmine and carrot oil have antiseptic, skin firming and de-stressing properties.  There’s also olive oil and calendula extract which deeply nourishes skin and deliver anti-inflammatories to soothe during and after shaving, providing a total skin care experience in one.

Expect to see the unit installed on the 1st December 2011!

Rebelling against foundation with tinted moisturiser

Product: You Rebel tinted moisturiser by Benefit

Available from: House of Fraser/Debenhams and Boots

Price:£23.50

What it claims to do:
Benefit You Rebel is a defiantly different tinted moisturiser. Will leave your complexion healthy and protected with a hint of colour. It contains antioxidants, aloe vera and allantoin for soft, supple skin all year long. Contains SPF 15+.

Review:
I’ve never used a tinted moisturiser in my life, preferring a medium – full coverage foundation instead. After recently spotting this product on many blogs I decided to give it a go for lazy weekend days when I’m only pottering around my local neighbourhood and for days when I just don’t feel like looking so ‘made up’. It comes in two shades (You Rebel and You Rebel Lite) and I find that it blends into my skin really easily, providing a nice glow that tends to only come about from a primer such as Clairns Flash Balm.

Final verdict
I will be definitely buying this again. I can’t believe I didn’t discover it sooner! If you have blemishes or spots you can always cover that specific area with a concealer or higher coverage foundation.

Holiday Beauty Essentials

Holidays are wonderful things but if there’s one thing that makes going away a bit of a pain it’s having to leave things behind our beauty products. A lot of women (and men) would agree that ALL beauty items are essential.  Alas, there is a weight limit and if you’re going for hand luggage, a size limit, so we have to cut back. Still here are some of our favourite handy travel items.

All-in-one

Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream is a beauty essential any time of the year and this sun cream pack for £29 from Debenhams is one of our favourites. The After The Rain travellers set from Debenhams is also a very pretty compact pack with all you need.  Plus it’s a steal at £5.62.

Mix and match

If you, like us, are obsessed with all things miniature, stock up on Superdrug’s mini essentials.  Our favourites are the Palmer’s Cocoa butter,  this Ooh La La travel pack of washing and lotioning essentials, the tea tree exfoliating wash which will keep your skin free of dead cells and clear for the sun.  John Frieda’s travel packs for blondes and brunettes are perfect but always take your Batiste dry shampoo in handy travel size just in case.

Can’t live without

If you really can’t bear to be without your products then just take them with you but in handy travel-sized bottles like this spray bottle from Boots for only £1.55 a pop or this pack of four from Debenhams (£7.99).

How to do the Kate Middleton blow dry

With those long, shiny, healthy looking waves the ‘Kate Middleton’ has fast become  the new ‘Rachel’ as the most talked about and requested hair style of the moment.  Even Cheryl ‘because-I’m-worth-it’ Cole has said she’s jealous of Kate’s bouncy locks.

So I set out to get my very own Kate blow dry and asked our friends at Hershesons Blow Dry Bar to show me how it’s done.

The finished look was a sleeker version of their big and brushed style with soft pretty waves just like Kate’s.   Here’s the video and a step guide, with details of the products used.

How to get Kate Middleton hair

The step-by-step guide

1. Wash the hair

2. Put a little volume spray, such as L’Oreal Volume lift, on the root

3. Rough dry the hair

4. When hair is 95% dry put a little serum spray on. Hershesons used L’Oreal tecni.art Pli which works as a base for creating waves and curls.

5. Section the hair, starting at the top.

6. Blow dry the hair with a large round brush.  (Hershesons used their own brand round brush no 2 which they sell in store)

7. Wrap the hair round the fingers and secure in place with a clip

8.  Spray a little hairspray, that classic favourite Elnett is best, to hold.

9. Unravel the rolled sections carefully to let the curls out.

10. Shake the hair out and blow dry (with large round brush) over any sections you want to make sleeker

11. (Bonus step) Pop over to Reiss or Whistles – Kate’s favourites – for an elegant dress and find yourself a Prince to marry.  Et voila!

Winter TLC from L’Occitane

While our livers and waistlines are quite enjoying January, our skin absolutely hates it.   The central heating is making it dry while the lack of sunlight also means our make up has got that little bit heavier, something our pores are not too happy about. Too cold outside, too hot inside: our skin is confused and craving a little love. Thankfully, L’Occitane has come up with something which goes along way to appeasing it.

One of our favourite products has always been the Ultra Rich Face Cream from L’Occitane. With its silky smooth texture and pleasant, not overpowering, scent it keeps skin moisturised for hours thanks to the high concentration of shea butter. Now L’Occitane are including a scrub with it as as part of a Magical Face Care Duo which makes it the perfect combo for confused skin at winter at a very reasonable £35.

Get the Look: Frozen Diamond

The wintry weather means we’ve certainly got the whole “frozen” look down to a T but red noses and chapped lips are not exactly the way forward.  So when we saw The Make Up Store’s Frozen Diamond collection we thought, ooh, that’s a bit more like it.

The collection - which consists of glosses, shimmers, turquoise and green eyeshadows and eye dusts, glittering shimmers for face and lips – makes for a look which is all pale ice queen with frosted eyes and pink wind-bitten lips and cheeks.

The look calls for porcelain skin with delicate rosy cheeks (so step away from the bronzer).  Mineral microshadows and eye dusts can be used dry or wet for either a subtle or more striking look, combined with the sheen for temples, cheeks and lips.

But the icing on the cake is the Sparkling Diamond, a multifunctional shimmer for lips, eyes and cheeks.  For lips,  finish this look with the lipgloss in ‘frozen’ adding an understated sheen.    Finally, if you want to acheive a real ‘Narnia’ look add their false eyelashes with crystals.

Left to right:  Eyedust in Brilliance and Paragon, £11; High tech lighter, £15; Microshadow in Vertigo, £11
