Five trends, five bloggers, five key pieces

This season the Westfield campaign focuses on five key trends to shop for:  faux fur, sequins, mod, heritage, statement coats.   Some people love changing their wardrobe completely every season but for some it’s an arduous (and expensive) task.  But it doesn’t have to be.  To update your wardrobe you don’t need to rehaul everything and more often than not all you really need is a key piece.  We headed to Westfield London and secured the help of five fabulous bloggers to pick out a key piece for each trend.

Go Mod with Mademoiselle Robot

Laetitia Wajnapel, otherwise known as blogger extraordinaire Mademoiselle Robot, was set the task of finding a key piece for the mod trend.

Heading straight to Topshop, Laetitia picked up this pair of boyish red trousers from for £38 as her key piece for the mod trend and paired them with with a 60s printed jacket and some retro accessories.

Watch the video to see how she picked the piece, what she paired it with and her advice on how to wear the mod trend.

Go Coats with OSOYOU

Jess Markwood, editorial director at OSOYOU had to hunt for the perfect coat.  With so many gorgeous coats on the rails Jess was rather spoilt for choice but she decided on one as it worked the masculine tailoring trend but is so classic it would last from season to season, except summer of course (although with our summers you never know), and picked up this coat from Reiss.

The coat, which costs £275, is one of our favourites for winter.  Elegant but with an edge and in a beautiful coffee colour.  It also comes in saphire blue and red for those who want to wow with colour too.

Go Heritage with Fashion Daydreams

The heritage trend is probably one of the more difficult to make work if you don’t know how.

The trend, which is all about layering different textures and prints, is big news for autumn/winter and it was Reena Rai from Fashion Daydreams who was set the challenge of finding a key piece.

The glitzy blogger chose this Topshop coat for £100.  Matched it with straight trousers and some signature heels.  Check out Reena’s advice on rocking the heritage look.

Go Sequins with Blah Blah Becky

Sequins are huge news and perfect for party season but they can be  difficult to get right.

Too much and you can look like a shiny disco ball which is never a good look.

Becky tried to avoid the sequin dress but got drawn  to this amazing dress from French Connection for £165.  We love it.  We want it.  She got it… and here’s how she’s wearing it.

Go Faux Fur with Catwalk Queen

Kate from Catwalk Queen had the challenge of finding a key faux fur piece.  From the minute she started shopping Kate was drawn to gilets, and there are some real gems out in the centres at the moment, but it was this £75 gilet from Topshop that won out in the end.

Paired with a long dress from House of Fraser and some killer accessories we love Kate’s final look which you’ll see in the video.

Celebrity Trend: Faux Fur

A celeb trend that’s wearable is a rare thing of wonder, but that’s exactly what the faux fur coat trend is!

Stars such as Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham and Kate Hudson have all been spotted out and about keeping warm and snugly in their faux fur buys. It’s a look that has filtered down into the high street as well, meaning you can snap up a slice of A-list luxe at a fraction of the price.

It’s the perfect cover up – especially with all this snow – and what’s more, you’ll probably be able to pick up a fur number in the sales. We’ve found a great black faux fur (see below) at Debenhams, reduced from £49 to £35.

Both Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham favour the more natural hue of coat, such as this Topshop number (middle). However, we think you can’t go wrong with black. If you don’t want to go the whole faux fur coat hog, don a furry gillet, which looks great when clashed with a cutesy print dress.

The key to wearing this look successfully is to keep the rest of your look simple. With so much volume up top, it’s also wise to keep the bottom half slim in skinny jeans or leggings. And finally, remember to keep it fake – real fur is not cool and if the faux variety is good enough for the likes of Ms Moss, then it’s good enough for us!

Colourful Coats

Brrr, it’s getting colder and if you haven’t already bought a new winter coat, now’s the time to get all wrapped up. This season, a coat isn’t just a practical thing, but a great addition to brighten up your winter wardrobe.

Forget boring old black and grey and throw caution to the wind, with a bright and beautiful cover up. The shops are full of an array of rainbow colours – from hot pink to lime green, there’s a shade to suit all.

The great thing about colour pop coats is that they can really zing up a boring outfit. One of our favourite tricks is to colour clash our tights – wear red tights with a pink coat for example, or clash green tights with a blue coat. It’s very Marc Jacobs – but without the price tag.

So get all wrapped up and banish the winter blues with one of these colourful coats…

Steal Cat Deeley’s Style

With the days getting colder, we’ve been thinking about getting a new winter coat. The problem is there are just too many too choose from so thank goodness for Cat Deeley!

We spied a picture of her arriving at an aiport, looking all girl next door casual sexy, in a gorgeous grey military style coat. Obviously we thought this was above our means, but were delighted to find out it actually came from Monsoon.

The Michelangelo Military Coat is from their Fusion range and we think it’s the perfect winter cover up. As Cat proved, it looks great teamed with skinny jeans and casual boots, but will also look great over workwear. We’re snapping it up now as at £100, it’s a real celebrity steal!
