Four festive beauty tricks

We have to admit that while this month is doing wonders for our social lives it’s playing havoc with our beauty regime.  Too much partying, not enough nutrients – mince pies, mulled wine and big festive red cup lattes contain none of your five a day and more than your recommended daily allowance of everything bad – and all part and parcel of the holdays.  But rather than be antisocial or celebrate the festive season with water and carrot sticks we’ve decided to fake it.  Here are three of our best seasonal beauty tricks.

Estee Lauder Spotlight Skintone Perfector, £25, House of Fraser

This sheer lotion is designed to make you look healthy and glowing so even after Christmas Eve’s frivolity you can face the family on Christmas Day looking rested and serene.  Apart from the one-off effect this product has the added benefit of working over time to give you even more of a glow with its high dosage of anti-oxidants.

Charles Worthington mineral hair rescue, £5.49, Boots

We might not have time to get to the salon for a full makeover but we’ve got 15 minutes to give our hair a little TLC.  Charles Worthington’s mineral hair rescue is a bargain at £5.49 and, when combined with a hot towel treatment – directions: take one towel, heat it, wrap it on head – this is a real treat for your tresses.

This Works Tired Eye Serum, £30, Boots

One of the most obvious signs of a late night or a series of late nights is of course the tell-tale dark circles under the eyes.   Sleep and plenty of water are one way of battling the dreaded dark eye but if that’s not an option we’ve found something which is almost as good.

Bobby Brown, Treatment Lip Shine, £17, House of Fraser

While winter has its obvious high points, few will avoid the dreaded cold particularly as our immune systems get a bit of a battering at the hands of the parties and if, like us, your body sees a holiday coming and says – aha, that’ll be my cue to get ill now – chapped lips are a given so a moisturising lipstick that stays put without drying out is a must.  We love Bobby Brown’s Treatment lip shine, lipstick which doubles up as a moisturiser for lips.

Pretty Pastels

Just as the catwalk saw an explosion of pretty pastels, pretty girlie colours are also hitting beauty counters.

It all started with Chanel’s Jade nail polish – a soft green shade that took the fashion world by storm with celebs such as Lily Allen sporting green nails, while us mere mortals were put on a waiting list for this must-have shade! Thankfully, the beauty world has taken note and made a whole array of gorgeous pastel hues are now readily available to use.

Nail polish is one of the easiest ways to get in on this trend. We love M&S’s Essentials Nail Polish in green – not only is it pretty much a match for the Chanel shade, but it also comes in at the bargain buster price of just £2.50. If green isn’t your thing, try a pale blue or a soft yellow – they may sound crazy, but they look gorgeous on.

On the eyes, pale pastel eyeshadow is one of the easiest trends to way. Sweep on your favourite shade – whether it be pink, blue or green – and just add lashings of mascara. Complete this pretty look with a soft pink blusher and candy pink lip gloss – mmm, it’s good enough to eat.

To help you on the path to pastel enlightenmnent, we’ve picked out our favourite products available to buy now – but which ones will you be wearing?

L-R: Michael Kors blusher in Sunset Pink, £23, Estée Lauder; Pale green nail polish, £2.50, M&S; Natural Radiance Eye Palette, £13, No 7; Yellow nail varnish, £13, Illamasqua; Stop Violence In The Home Hi-Shine Lip Treatment, £9.25, The Body Shop

It’s So Very Hollywood!

Here at Westfield HQ we get very excited whenever there’s a new limited edition beauty collection – and the new range from Estée Lauder, Michael Kors Very Hollywood Color Collection – is no exception.

Since this gorgeous new collection landed on our desks, we’ve been smitten with it. From the sleek beige packaging to the very glam colours, it’s a collection destined to make you feel like a Hollywood star – even if you live in Lewisham as opposed to LA!

According to Michael, “The inspiration for the Estée Lauder Michael Kors Very Hollywood Color Collection is iconic Hollywood glamour, both past and present, interpreted for everyday life.” And we can say that for once, the blurb is very true.

The Bel Air Beige range features a classic combo of beige and coral, with shimmery peach lips, cheeks and a smoky eye, while the Rodeo Pink range contains vibrant shades of raspberry, with the focus being on bold lips.

Our favourite item in this gorgeous new range though has to be the Estée Lauder Michael Kors Very Hollywood Shimmering Loose Powder. It may not make you look like Angelina Jolie, but we find the silky formula gives us a gorgeous glow, making us feel like we’ve just come back from an A-list holiday in the Bahamas.

It’s a fabulous range, which looks as good on your dressing table as it does on your face and we’re pretty sure it’s going to be a sell out. So, to make sure you enjoy a touch of Hollywood glamour at home, get down to your nearest Estée Lauder counter from 1st February!
