Hot or not: summer boots

Think of summer footwear and you normally conjure up images of flip flops and sandals. Not so this year. The ankle boot has taken over as the summer trend of choice. It has become the surprise fashion hit of the season.

The ankle boot was seen on many a well-turned heel at Glastonbury too. Check out Sienna Miller’s totally festival-appropriate look. She ticks so many of the hot trend boxes – the cute denim shorts, the straw hat, the crochet waistcoat and of course, the lace up ankle boot.

It may not look particularly pretty, but the ankle boot is a sensible choice for the British summer. We’re never too far away from a rain cloud after all. Plus, it’s really comfy and ideal for walking. But fashion isn’t meant to be comfortable is it? When did stylish and practical go hand in hand?

After months of hiding feet away inside thick socks and winter boots, isn’t it good to give them a bit of an airing? Surely summer is the time to treat your feet to a pedicure and show them off in sexy sandals.

What do you think? Summer boots – hot or not?

Festival chic

It’s that time of year again. Festival season is upon us. With Glastonbury this weekend and Reading/Leeds, Big Chill, Bestival, Latitude and so many more yet to come, it’s time to sort out your festival wardrobe. And now is such a good time to shop with the summer sales in full swing. You could pick up some brilliant bargains!

Right now, the sun is shining and people are smiling. Festival dressing is so much easier when it’s warm and dry. But looking good is made trickier by the camping and festival shower situation. Our advice is to aim for cool, comfy and relaxed styling.

Go for slouchy vest tops teamed with cute shorts or leggings. Add fringed or buckled ankle boots or Gladiator style flat sandals.

Work the prairie look with ditsy print dresses and playsuits in florals or checks. Dresses can be long or short but remember that maxis may trail in the mud. Layer it up with a cropped denim jacket, crochet cardigan or relaxed denim shirt. Layers are the secret for festival dressing, you never know when those clouds and chilly breezes are going to come along.

Embellish and accessorise! Add some sparkle to a simple vest and tee combo with an embellished waistcoat and some tribal jewellery. Load up on chunky bracelets. Top it off with your must-have hat and don’t forget your sunnies and sunscreen.

And if the weather does turn rubbish – it is Britain after all - don’t forget your parka and wellies.

Anna says: “For a dress down look I think Alexa Chung really gets it right. She takes a trend and makes it her own and is very real.

I liked her Coachella Festival look and I think this could translate to a copycat outfit well – a playsuit, worn with an across the body bag and flat sandals.”

Spring/Summer Preview: River Island

River Island has nailed all the top trends for Spring/Summer. From pretty pastels – for both men and women – to fierce tribal prints, their new season range is brimming with gorgeous outfits.

We particularly like the pretty grunge look – a parka thrown over a crochet dress will be just perfect for all those festivals this year. And if River Island have anything to do with it, you men out there will definitely be ditching the black in favour of bright pastels.

Take a look below at our favourites from their new Spring/Summer range.
