Is there a word more comfortable sounding than slouchy? While comfort often has to take a back seat in the style stakes this does not have to be so with the slouchy jumper because, as Miss Palermo so stylishly demonstrates, slouchy can be chic.
But before you start stretching out your old jumpers or raiding your boyfriend’s wardrobe head to French Connection where we’re loving their selection of oversized knits like this one for £70. Pair with skinny jeans and ankle boots like these Biba coated jeans (£79) and River Island boots (£60), grab a satchel – we love this cute Sofia bag by Marc B** from Topshop (£47) – and work slouchy to winter perfection just like Olivia.
It’s no longer the little black dress that we’re covetting but the long black dress. More of a wardrobe stable than a trend, the black maxi is here to stay and for this season it can go from casual day wear to evening glam. Here are three of our favourites.
First it’s the monochrome Jane Norman dress featured in this year’s Car Bootique at Westfield London. It was one of our favourites backstage and at £35 is a real steal.
The French Connection Aztex Maxi dress is £180 of gorgeous Grecian goddess glam. It’s on the must have list for Autumn/Winter for sure.
This amazing long sleeve Biba maxi that Catwalk Queen picked out on her shop around the centre recently and is on sale now for £50 at House of Fraser.
Wedges are a summer essential and this season’s wedges are higher and brighter than ever.
These beauties are perfect for festivals and beach holidays. Perfect paired with maxi dresses or a shorts, these are four of our favourites on sale right now.
From top: French Connection wedge (was £52, is £49); Karvela Kuchina from Kurt Geiger (Was £150, is £89); Wizard orange striped wedges from Topshop (Was £70, Is £40); Carvela wedges at House of Fraser (was £140, is £69)
The sales have come early this year which is great news for men who want to get their hands on a few of this season’s key pieces.
Sticking with neutral shades get a whole smart-casual outfit out of sales which will take you very nicely from the British summer into autumn.
Timberland fitted chinos, was £65, now £45, House of Fraser; J by Jasper Conran Portafina shoes, was £65 , now £52, Craghoppers grey shirt, was £30 now £15, both Debenhams; Half windsor scarf, was £42.00 , £now 33.50, French Connection.
It would be a bit of an understatement to say the Middletons are getting rather a lot of attention at the moment. From how they got their summer glow to the secret of Kate Middleton’s bouncy hair to the exercises Pippa Middleton does to get her posterior so pert, everywhere you look Middleton mania is rife.
But since Pippa’s star turn as maid of honour at the wedding of the year the sister dubbed ’Her Royal Hotness’ has also become a bit of a style icon. While some query her fashionista status we have to profess that we think both the Middletons with their simple, understated and elegant but accessible sartorial choices are a breath of fresh air.
They have their favourite designers – both are very fond of Issa dresses - but rarely will you see the ladies kitted out in head-to-toe designer gear, with both Kate and Pippa prefering to fly the flag for the high street.
The day after the wedding, Pippa wore a blue blazer from Zara (pictured left) which sold out in days and it’s Zara, French Connection and Reiss that feature again and again in the Middleton wardrobes.
Unlike plenty of others in the public eye, Pippa Middleton tends to wear the things she likes more than once. By day she’s rarely seen without her Modalu bag, a bag which the brand have now renamed the ‘Pippa’ while the gorgeous sparkly Jimmy Choo clutch she wore with her green dress for the Royal Wedding reception also made an appearance during a recent night out to the Kensignton Roof Gardens.
We’ve picked out two of Pippa’s daytime and evening looks featuring the items she bought so you too can steal her style.
Pippa pairs her French Connection Talia’s tail dress (£57 and still available in store!) with her £149 Modalu bag and a pair of mid height court wedges. The Maddox shoe in dusk pink is from LK Bennett (£165).
For the evening, Pippa Middleton was recently spotted in this pink silk ruffled dress (£110, French Connection at House of Fraser) and a classic black blazer - we love this one from Reiss (£179) - and the famous Zeta clutch by Jimmy Choo (£265).
What do you think? Is she a style icon in your book or not?
We’ve been getting so excited about all the spring fashion coming in and getting used to seeing bright colours on the red carpet that we almost forgot that it was still winter. Then it rained on our hair and we remembered. Still, it was good to see two of our favourite Brits sporting long sleeved semi-gothic black numbers at the BRITS last night.
Adele, who gave an incredible performance last night, chose a sparkly number with sheer sleeves while Cheryl Cole also sparkled in her Stella McCartney floor-length long-sleeved dress with smokey eyes and swept back hair.
Here are four of our favourite Brits inspired dresses from the stores,
Sheer sleeves dress, £20; black lace open back dress, £30; both Dorothy perkins
Samantha sequin dress, £160, French connection; baroque beaded dress, £85, Oasis
This week we met the lovely Felicity Jones and Tamsin Egerton at the world premiere of their new film Chalet Girl in Westfield London. Both girls looked lovely on the red carpet with Felicity in an Atelier Mayer 1950′s Midnight Blue Velvet Dress and Tamsin showing off her mile-long legs in a black Armani number.

With Valentine’s Day coming up we could do with something elegant but sexy, a look that both girls nailed this week. Here’s our favourite not-too-revealing LBD and velvet dress from the stores this week.
Black maxime dress, £95.00, Coast; Silk-blend velvet vixen ruffle dress, £50, at French Connection
Animal print is the statement print for Autumn/Winter. It is everywhere! Unleash your inner leopard and go wild with the print.
Coat £200, dress £45 and snood £25, all from Warehouse
The statement coat is a key piece and a faux fur leopard print number will certainly make a statement. There are great vintage styles around, whether you’re looking for a super-warm winter coat or a snuggly shorter jacket. A leopard print fur coat or jacket is a one piece wonder which you can throw on for instant glamour.
Left to right: Leopard print faux fur jacket, French Connection £120; Vintage leopard print faux fur coat, Topshop £98
Take one bold print piece, like these skinnies, and contrast them with different textures and layers. Mix with lace and even florals now, then add on chunky knits as the weather gets chillier. Or take a floaty leopard print dress (check out Reiss and Warehouse) and team it with a leather Aviator jacket.
Left to right: Animal print day top, Star by Julien MacDonald for Debenhams £40; Print court shoes, Dorothy Perkins, £25; Leopard print skinnies, Topshop £45; Zip detail print pumps, Oasis £40; Animal print zip detail skirt, River Island £29.99
Is leopard a bit fierce for you? Scared of the bold print? Just go for an accessory. You’ll find bags, shoes, belts, lingerie, hats, scarves, gloves and even bangles featuring the print. There’s no escaping it this season, so be brave and release your inner Bet Lynch.
