Last minute holiday packing and beauty guide

I’m sure I’m not the only one who leaves holiday planning and packing to the very last minute and you’ll know if you do that this can make for a bit of pre holiday panic.   So, I went to speak to one of our favourite personal shoppers, Diane McCarthy at House of Fraser to get her advice on the absolute holiday essentials.  Watch the video to get the perfect holiday wardrobe and a guide on how to pack it.

I’m now in love with Timney beach wear range of swimsuits, cover ups and accessories.

While at House of Fraser, I caught up with a specialist from Clinique to find out how to tan beautifully and safely.

A beach holiday capsule wardrobe

Packing for a beach holiday is always a little more stressful than it should be.  It starts with ‘Oh I only need a couple of things’ and then you start thinking about the various possible weather conditions, the different bathing suits you’ll need for pre-tan, during tan and post tan, then there’s the days and the evenings, the question about how many shoes is sensible and it can soon spiral out of control.

So, we asked the team at Topshop to show us some of the key pieces for this holiday season and how to make a capsule wardrobe for a beach holiday.  Here’s their personal shopper Shereen Farahi with all the info:

Here are the 10 key items you need:

  • A two piece bikini
  • A maxi dress
  • A one piece swimsuit
  • A pair of light print or floral shorts
  • A floppy or straw hat
  • A pair of flat pumps – the fruitier the better
  • Sunglasses
  • A white dress/kaftan that can be dressed up or down
  • A pair of wedges for day to night]
  • Chunky statement jewellery

Add a splash of colour

It’s holiday time – sun, sea, blue skies. Keep that vibe going by adding a splash of summer colour to your wardrobe palette. Think blues and greens from cobalt to turquoise and every hue in between.

Going on holiday?

Bold blues and greens look great in the sunshine and will complement a golden tan. Pick out some bright, colourful pieces to mix with your basic neutrals. We spotted this bright blue River Island bikini on Coleen Rooney recently. If it’s good enough for her holiday wardrobe, it’s good enough for ours too.

Left to right: Amaryllis kaftan, Accessorize £30; Blue bikini, River Island top £12.99 and bottoms £9.99; Havaiana slim flip flops, Schuh £19.99

Staying home?

If you’re holiday’s behind you or you’ve decided to stay put this year, create your own holiday vibe with splashes of colour. These pieces will lift your wardrobe and see you through to next season. Enjoy them now and to spice up your more neutral Autumn/Winter palette of camel and grey.

From left to right: Asymettric ruffle front dress, Oasis was £50 now £30; Two tone sunglasses, Topshop £15; Teal mid-heel brogue, Office £65; Blue Prism watch, Guess Accessories £130; NailsInc nail polish in Haymarket, Debenhams £10.50
