New Year’s Eve party outfit

All the Christmas parties are done and dusted and now there’s just the one big one left to finish off the year and for that,  we need the perfect outfit.

The sales are full of gorgeous dresses but we’ve fallen in love with this white beaded dress from Karen Millen.  Continuing this season’s trend for metallics and embellishment while welcoming next  season’s all-white trend this is the perfect dress to say ‘goodbye 2010, hello 2011′ in and with the price slashed from £250 to £75 it’s like an extra Christmas present to yourself (well that’s what we’re telling ourselves anyway).

While it needs little accessorising, we’ve picked out a few other items to finish it off.  With all the sales on this £565 outfit actually only costs £215.90!

Left to right: Frayed silk shrug, £150.00 – £44.95; Metal stone bracelet £65.00 – 44.95; Beaded dress in white £250 – £75.00, all at Karen Millen; Ravel Sequin shoes, £78.00 – £40.00, Barratts; Untold Satin clutch £22 – £11, House of Fraser.

Wearing a stunning Monique Lhuillier halterneck metallic dress, 90210′s Jessica Lowndes was the latest celebrity to embrace the trend for metallics this season.

The high street has very kindly brought out their own versions which are perfect for the party season.  Here are three of our favourites which, as luck would have it, are on sale to boot.

Utility fashion

Looking for some pieces that will see you through from summer to autumn? You can’t go wrong with a few neutral items that are hot right now and will be holding strong into the new season.

Utility fashion is ideal for summer and makes a change from cute ditsy florals, bold prints and statement maxi dresses. Choose khaki and typical safari tones and team them with simple white or neutral pieces for summer cool.

Cargo pants are the trousers of choice right now. Look out for super skinnies, peg leg and hareem styles. Style them up with some hot heels - platforms, wedges or wooden sole clogs.

Left to right: Utility skinnies, Warehouse £15 now £10; Khaki peg trousers, Dorothy Perkins £28; Khaki zip back hareem pants, Topshop £35.

A simple vest, tee or classic white shirt is the ideal partner.

Left to right: Compact cotton sleeveless Tee, Uniqlo £14.99; Ecru vest, Next £16; Military vest, H! by Henry Holland at Debenhams £16

The utility trend isn’t all about cargo pants though. You’ll find a range of safari-inspired pieces around too. Whilst utility trousers are all about being relaxed and slouched, dresses and skirts  are more structured and tailored.

Left to right: Safari shirtdress, Karen Millen £165; Military skirt, Next £28; Scout dress, Cos £65.

Finish off with chunky jewellery. Gold looks great with these neutral tones.
