Three ankle boots, three ways

The weather has finally figured out what month it’s in and turned from Indian summer back to Autumn just like it’s meant to be. So, we’ve turned our attention back to this season’s more appropriate clothing, in particular the boot.  This year we’re seeing an abundance of ankle boots on the high street in all shapes and sizes and, as Fearne, Kate and Pippa demonstrate so nicely for us here, they can be worn over skinny jeans, with cropped trousers or with dresses as one of the most versatile accessories of the season.

As you’ll be wearing them a lot we suggest investing in a good pair.  These Office Nico platforms at £105 in tan are perfect with skinny jeans.  The ambush leopard ankle boots are £80 at Topshop with their wedged heel are great for girls who want to run around while looking stylish in their boots.  But for killer stilletos, Verity by Kurt Geiger in black are our favourite at £119, down from £180.

To trend or not to trend, that is the question…

We all have a more-than-mild obsession with shopping here at Westfield which, granted, is not surprising considering the area of work we’re in.  But with trends moving faster than the weather and everything this season being so last season and next season actually being this season, it all gets a little bit much for the wardrobe, the wallet and, at times, the mind.

So it got us thinking about shopping habits and whether was better to invest in the classics or invest in a stand out trend-led piece for each season or to mix it up and we wanted to know what you, the shoppers, do.  Does your wardrobe move from each season to the next in an ‘out with the old, in with the new’ kind of fashion or do you stick with the key pieces you know work for you?

What kind of shopper are you?

What Kate did next…

As Kate Moss’s final collection for Topshop leaves the stores forever, rumours abound that Kate herself is also leaving the world of fashion and moving into the world of music.

She’s pole danced in a video for The White Stripes and sung on a few Babyshambles tracks but the supermodel is now supposedly having a recording studio installed in her house for her to work on her debut album.

In another twist Kate also recently revealed, in an interview with Company magazine, that she was thinking of opening a modelling school.  Describing herself as being “short and lopsided” she said that if she could learn how to model she should be able to teach others how to work it too.

Whether Kate decides to go down the music route or not we can’t imagine Kate ever leaving the fashion industry for good, having become synonymous with the British fashion industry and a style icon for our generation.

Some of the items from Kate’s last collection are still available in store and are on sale too.  Here are some of our top picks.

Clockwise from left: Sequin stripe jacket £180 £90; Beat pleat maxi dress £250 £125; Silk embroidered cape £150 £75; Chainmail vest dress £180 £90; Black embellished dress £180 £90

Front Row At Fashion For Relief

We had exclusive front row seats and backstage access at last night’s Fashion For Relief catwalk show, and we can tell you that it was absolutely fantastic! We interviewed the likes of Alexandra Burke, James Corden, Kimberley & Nicola from Girls Aloud, David Gandy, Jo Wood, Pixie Geldof plus more who were all doing their bit for Fashion For Relief.

The night opened with a word from MC Trudi Styler followed by Sarah Brown, who is a Patron of Fashion For Relief. She gave a touching speech about the plight of women and babies in hurricane stricken Haiti, which made everyone realise the true value of the night. We were then treated to an electric performance from Beverly Knight, appropriately singing Soul Survivor – she blew us all away with her soulful voice!

The show opened with Naomi Campbell – who is even more beautiful in real life and doesn’t look her age at all – followed by Kate Moss, wearing Alexander McQueen, which was a fitting tribute to their late friend and designer. Sir Phillip Green went on to purchase Kate’s McQueen dress for a cool £100k!

Backstage, the atmosphere was buzzing and there were no egos in sight. In the spirit of the night, the celebrity models patiently lined up half-an-hour before they were due to go on and didn’t complain at all – surely a rariety in the celeb world?

Key celebrity catwalk highlights included Naomi & her mother (quite obvious where she got her stunning genes from), Kate Moss, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts, Erin O’Connor, Amber Valetta and mum Yasmin Le Bon walking together, Denise Van Outen who was positively glowing and showing off her growing baby bump, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Alexandra Burke, Shirley Bassey, Jo Wood, Geri Halliwell and of course the cheeky Ronnie Corbett!

Backstage, celebs including Erin O’Connor, Kimberley Walsh, The Saturdays, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, Shirley Bassey and David Gandy all signed our limited edition Vivienne Westwood T-shirts, which will be auctioned for Fashion For Relief at Westfield London’s fashion event in March. We’ll also be giving one of these away the next Westfield London e-newsletter – so if you’ve not already signed up, sign up now.

You can watch the entire Fashion For Relief show online now – so take a look and don’t forget, if you’re in London, come down between 19th-21st February and snap up a limited edition Vivienne Westwood T-shirt.

Celebrity Trend: Faux Fur

A celeb trend that’s wearable is a rare thing of wonder, but that’s exactly what the faux fur coat trend is!

Stars such as Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham and Kate Hudson have all been spotted out and about keeping warm and snugly in their faux fur buys. It’s a look that has filtered down into the high street as well, meaning you can snap up a slice of A-list luxe at a fraction of the price.

It’s the perfect cover up – especially with all this snow – and what’s more, you’ll probably be able to pick up a fur number in the sales. We’ve found a great black faux fur (see below) at Debenhams, reduced from £49 to £35.

Both Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham favour the more natural hue of coat, such as this Topshop number (middle). However, we think you can’t go wrong with black. If you don’t want to go the whole faux fur coat hog, don a furry gillet, which looks great when clashed with a cutesy print dress.

L-R: Black gilet, Warehouse; Brown coat, Topshop; Black coat, Debenhams

The key to wearing this look successfully is to keep the rest of your look simple. With so much volume up top, it’s also wise to keep the bottom half slim in skinny jeans or leggings. And finally, remember to keep it fake – real fur is not cool and if the faux variety is good enough for the likes of Ms Moss, then it’s good enough for us!

Go Wild For Animal Print!

It’s the print that just doesn’t seem to be going away! Leopard print has come a long way from the days of being associated with EastEnders characters and market stalls and is proving it’s fashion credentials by being seen on the back stylish stars such as Kate Moss and Lily Allen.

The high street has really gone wild for this dramatic print – and we can see why. It’s a simple way to elevate a boring item such as a mac or scarf into a whole new fashion realm! For the daring among you, it’s one print that looks amazing in bright colours or clashed with other prints, however, even for those normally nervous of prints, it’s one look to try out.

Why not add a bright pink leopard print scarf (like the one below from Dorothy Perkins) over a boring black coat? Or perhaps add a touch of the exotic to skinny jeans with some leopard print boots from Clarks?

And it needn’t stop at your wardrobe – Julien McDonald has designed fabulous leopard print martini glasses for his Debenhams range, so you can now bring a touch of animal magic to your home. Grrr!

Celebrity Trend: Leather Luxe

Ever since Angelina Jolie walked down the red carpet this summer looking sensational in a Michael Kors leather dress, leather has been the must-wear fabric. Since then, celebrities such as Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue have also gone hell for leather, which means a leather dress is on the top of most fashionista’s wishlist.

However, unlike the A-list, you might not have the cash to splash on super expensive versions, so we’ve scoured the high street to find three of the best leather dresses to buy – which start from £100 and go up to £299.

New Look, £100; Oasis, £120; Hobbs, £299

New Look, £100; Oasis, £120; Hobbs, £299

With leather, it’s best to spend the most you can afford, as you want the best quality fabric to ensure you look like a superstar and not cheap and tacky! Keep accessories to minimum – high heels are essential but don’t overload the jewellery.

Let us know if you decide to purchase. Happy shopping!
