Prints Charming

Prints are always a big hit on the Spring/Summer catwalk, and this year proved no different. As well as the usual pretty florals, lots of designers showed quirky, yet cool, digital prints.

Givenchy chose to splash their abstract design all over their clothes – we particularly liked their jersey leggings, however, for us non-catwalk types, the easiest way to wear this trend is with an abstract print dress. And fashion-conscious celebs agree with everyone from Claudia Schiffer to Diane Kruger seen sporting a cute print mini dress on the red carpet.

What’s more, the high street has gone gaga for this look. From multi-coloured digital madness to the more understated monochrome feel, there’s something for everyone this year. We suggest you get ahead of the fashion pack now and snap one of these beauties up – some of our favourites are even in the sale now, so take your pick from one of our fab four digital print dresses.

L-R: Omaha dress, £60, Full Circle (available in store from March); Shift dress, reduced to £30, Oasis; UFO print dress, £35, Dorothy Perkins; J for Jasper Conran dress, £75 (in stores this spring)

Go Wild For Animal Print!

It’s the print that just doesn’t seem to be going away! Leopard print has come a long way from the days of being associated with EastEnders characters and market stalls and is proving it’s fashion credentials by being seen on the back stylish stars such as Kate Moss and Lily Allen.

The high street has really gone wild for this dramatic print – and we can see why. It’s a simple way to elevate a boring item such as a mac or scarf into a whole new fashion realm! For the daring among you, it’s one print that looks amazing in bright colours or clashed with other prints, however, even for those normally nervous of prints, it’s one look to try out.

Why not add a bright pink leopard print scarf (like the one below from Dorothy Perkins) over a boring black coat? Or perhaps add a touch of the exotic to skinny jeans with some leopard print boots from Clarks?

And it needn’t stop at your wardrobe – Julien McDonald has designed fabulous leopard print martini glasses for his Debenhams range, so you can now bring a touch of animal magic to your home. Grrr!

Celebrity Trend: Leather Luxe

Ever since Angelina Jolie walked down the red carpet this summer looking sensational in a Michael Kors leather dress, leather has been the must-wear fabric. Since then, celebrities such as Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue have also gone hell for leather, which means a leather dress is on the top of most fashionista’s wishlist.

However, unlike the A-list, you might not have the cash to splash on super expensive versions, so we’ve scoured the high street to find three of the best leather dresses to buy – which start from £100 and go up to £299.

New Look, £100; Oasis, £120; Hobbs, £299

New Look, £100; Oasis, £120; Hobbs, £299

With leather, it’s best to spend the most you can afford, as you want the best quality fabric to ensure you look like a superstar and not cheap and tacky! Keep accessories to minimum – high heels are essential but don’t overload the jewellery.

Let us know if you decide to purchase. Happy shopping!

How To Wear: Structured Shoulders

It’s all well and good being told what trends are big each season, but not everyone is a size 4 model with the ability to make even a black bin liner look good. In fact, not every body shape should wear every new trend, so we’re going to take a look each week at how you should wear trends in accordance to your body shape. This week – it’s all about shoulders.

Shoulders are the new errogenous zone in fashion this season. For those of us around in the ’80s, the thought of wearing shoulder pads can be quite horrifying, however, they can be really flattering for some body shapes.

If you’re pear shaped… Shoulder pads are your friend! They can even out your body, giving width to your top half.

Wear: This dress from Warehouse (£65). The sleeves will give you width where you need it, but the black is slimming to your bottom half.

If you have a boyish figure
… You can get away with the more outrageous structured shoulders around!

Wear: This top from TopShop (£25). Its futuristic vent is more Balmain than Dynasty, which is the look you’re after this season. Being slim, means you can also get away with this fabulous nude colour.

If you have broad shoulders
… Strong shoulders can be a difficult trend to wear. However, if you stay away from huge statement shoulders and keep the shape a bit looser, you’ll be ready to go.

Wear: This shrug from New Look (£18). The shoulders aren’t too extreme, plus the loose draping will create the illusion that your shoulders and hips are the same size.

If you’re curvy…
Make sure you keep your shoulders subtle. Too extreme and they’ll be competing with your bust for attention and will make you look very top heavy.

Wear: This scoop necked dress from Oasis (£60). The shoulders are slightly accentuated, however, the scoop neck will draw attention back to your bust and stop you from looking too top heavy.

So now you know how to wear it, go out and start shopping for those structured shoulders now!
